Dean of LJS Zheng Chun and secretary Wang Desheng attended the meeting. All the staff of LJS, tutor representatives and all the 2014th postgraduates and doctoral students took part in the meeting. It was presided by postgraduate counselor Guo Na.

At the meeting, the dean of LJS Zheng Chun , on behalf of LJS , extended a warm welcome to the arrival of new postgraduates. He said, in the past century, LJS has cultivated more than ten thousand of graduates and postgraduate students are the important part. He reviewed the history, features and development process of LJS. He briefly introduced the new achievements of talent cultivation and discipline construction in recent years. And he narrated the deep feeling of generations of great masters and many alumni to LJS.

He said LJS is important and deserves our prides. Over the past century, LJS has grown with Shandong University (SDU) and made the unique contribution to the development of SDU. He hoped that students can understand, be familiar with and deeply love their own school, because love is the power. And then, he put forward three suggestions to the new students. First, the period of postgraduate is different from the period of undergraduate. Everyone must clarify position at a new starting point, train their consciousness of research and explore their own research methods striving to learn with expertise.

Second, “Hear the sounds of the wind, the rain and the reading”, “Although we are small state officials, people’s sufferings affect our feelings.” As the students of LJS who have profound cultural background, postgraduate students must have good comprehensive quality. Students need a spirit of worship and need to respect life, knowledge and others. They also should cherish the period together with teachers and classmates. Third, postgraduates must get into the research status as soon as possible , work hard and do research steadily.

The secretary Wang Desheng showed the following study life for graduate students by the Chinese characters “硕”. He said, the Chinese character “硕” means “big head” which refers to the people with rich ideas. Therefore, students should improve the study ability on the basis of extensive reading. The radical of the Chinese character “硕” is “石” which means stand-up. In the present society, students should have the bottom line thinking in order to be held firm. The Chinese words “硕人”mean beauty which refers to the noble character, broad heart. He hoped students can break professional boundaries, help each other, and make the common progress. The Chinese character “硕” also means brilliant success. Students should have creative achievements. Especially doctoral students should be “broad, mastery, abundant, specialized, sophisticated, deep”. He asked the students to find their correct position. Students should learn from the study and study in the learning in order to become high-quality talents to adapt to society. In the end, he hoped students to cherish the chance to learn together, expressed his best wishes to the freshmen.

At the meeting, 2014 graduate Huang Ying, spoke as a representative of freshmen. After completing undergraduate studies in LJS, Huang Ying went to the poor areas to support education in 2013. Be touched by the hard learning environment in the poor areas, she cherished the favorable reading conditions provided by the school. She asked herself to insist on the truth-seeking and pragmatic attitude and truly accomplish “Noble in Spirit; Boundless in Knowledge”.

“Youth together, Family forever”. The meeting was ended in a warm and convivial atmosphere. All students had a deep understanding about their school. After the meeting, Professor Zhang Shuzheng gave an academic report for 2014th graduate students.
